I had two practice treatments to make sure the mask was just right and to mark it with pens, so that when I had the proper treatment, the mask could be lined up to make sure I had the treatment in the same place every time. I needed to go to the Royal Marsden hospital every weekday for 33 days. I had to lie on a special bed with my mask on, which was attached to the bed to keep my head still. The radiographers lined up the machine with the marks on my mask using lasers. I had the treatment both sides of my head, around my ears. Each side took 30 seconds, and while the machine was working, no-one could be in the room with me. There were little cameras in the room which cheered me up a bit because I knew that if I had a problem someone would come in and help. I never needed any help, though. Mummy and Daddy kept on saying I was coping better than a grown-up would.
I have a toy panda who I call Geoff after my doctor. He came with me for my treatment nearly every day, so I wasn’t really on my own in the treatment room.

I felt sick to begin with but I was given amazing tablets that made me better straight away, which meant I could go to school more. I was very tired because the radiotherapy makes you tired, and it took all morning to go to the hospital every day. When we got home I just felt like flopping on the sofa and never getting up again. I watched a lot of videos. After about 3 weeks I lost all the hair around my ears. It made me feel sad when I woke up and found lots of hair on my pillow. I also got sore skin in the same place, but cream made it a lot better. I only missed one piano lesson all the way through the treatment.
